"City of Renton" on display at The Museum of Flight in vintage United Air Lines colours. The aircraft was built as a 247 and delivered in 1933 to Pacific Air Transport. It was taken into UAL on 1 May 1934 and went back to Boeing for conversion to a 247D, re-joining the fleet in Aug 1935. With the advent of the DC-3, UAL's 247s were sold to other operators. This aircraft served with the RCAF, later flying in Latin America. It went back to the USA, serving as a crop sprayer and cloud seeder. Restored to airworthy status, it flew for the last time on 26 Apr 2016.

Initially delivered to United Airlines (NC13340) in 1933, N18E was the oldest Boeing Airliner still flying when pictured at Oshkosh. Wings and Wheels Museum acquired the Boeing 247 in 1977. After the museum closed it's doors in 1981, the aircraft was bought at auction and moved to the UK in 1982 for store / display at the Science Museum's out station in Wroughton.

The Boeing 247 at the start of the London - Melbourne race. The text below the aircraft name reads 'Col. Roscoe Turner - Aviation Adviser to Warner Bros. Studios'. Race number is 5, while 57 refers to Heinz's 57 ketchup varieties. The flamboyant 'Colonel' Turner's fantasy uniform 'afforded considerable amusement' among the British public. The co-pilot was Clyde Pangborn - see photo 488490. Photo from: Nationaal Archief (Netherlands)

Detail of an overview of then Cleveland Municipal Airport in 1936. In the background is a Stinson Model A to the right and a Curtiss Condor to the left - both types superseded by the modernity of the Boeing 247 and the DC-2. There are two more 247s in the full picture. NC13355 crashed near Burbank on 27 December 1936 and all twelve people on board were killed. Photo from: Library of Congress
