The Flying Hoorn 2015 event was a bit windy, which made for some very nice photos. The Dutch Catalina is seen here settling down on the water of the Hoornsche Hop off Hoorn, at the end of one of several pleasure flights. Photo taken from a RIB (rigid-inflatable boat), a very bumpy and wet ride under these breezy conditions. Regrettably, after having spent 24 years of its live in the Netherlands, this magnificent aircraft was sold to the Collins Foundation on 11 Oct 2018. It left Dutch waters forever on delivery to the USA on 29 May 2019.

This magnificent amphibian arrived in the Netherlands in 1995, initially owned by Martin van Schie as C-FHHR, then N27311 and finally PH-PBY. It changed hands in May 2000, and following an extensive restoration this aircraft first flew again exactly a month before this photo was taken. It was painted in these Netherlands Navy colours three weeks later, and this photo shows its first public appearance as such. Unfortunately it suffered an engine failure on 21 April 2017, and was withdrawn from use. Repairs proved too expensive, and in 2018 it was decided to offer the aircraft for sale. It departed to the USA in May 2019.
