Originally FM1023 of the R Malaysian AF, this Herald became very familiar to me as G-BEYG with BAF at Southend. Exported to Colombia a year before this shot, here "Don Celso" is seen taxiing to park alongside sister-ship HK-2702, ex G-BEYH. HK-2701 crashed on approach to Barranquilla on 16.9.91

Much more familiar at Southend during a later BAF career, this former Sadia Herald ended her days as G-DGLD with Channel Express and was scrapped at Exeter in 1996

Herald heaven at Jersey, back in the days of screaming Darts. Seen here in the company of G-BEYJ, G-ATDS and G-BFRK, G-APWH was used by the Norwich airport fire service for practice but was consumed by the end of 2003

More familiar on the Southend scene as G-BDZV, this Herald flew with short-lived French affliliate Trans Azur for a couple of years and is seen here after return to BAF. Exported to Aerovias as TG-AZE in 2.87 and last noted at Guatemala City in the late 90s

Operating a regular inclusive tour service from Manchester Ringway to Rimini. A BEA Comet 4B is on the Heathrow schedule in the background.

G-ASKK served British United from 02.67 until transfer to British Island Airways in 11.68. It had arrived on the schedule from Southampton and will depart to Jersey. 'SKK is now displayed in the museum at Norwich Airport.

Jersey Airlines operated this Herald 201 from June 1962 until their merger into BUA in August 1963. It is on finals to Runway 24 inbound from Jersey on flight JY616.

"Rupert Keegan" served BAF from March 1975 until sale to Zaire as 9Q-CAH in April 1983, inevitably crashing just over a year later. Originally CF-NAC with Nordair and Eastern Provincial.

In the City of Norwich Aviation Museum, this is an aircraft I have seen many times since the late 1960s operating with a variety of airlines.

Initially delivered to Jersey Airlines and shown shortly after merger into British United, retaining JY's scheme. Operating a holiday flight from Jersey.

Operated by BIA from July 1970 until merger into Air UK in January 1980. 1-11's of Caledonian/BUA and BUA in the background.

Delivered new to Bavaria Fluggesellschaft as D-BIBI in May 1964. Operated by BIA from July 1973 until merged into Air UK on 16 January 1980.

Soc. Columbia was headquartered in Genoa, the birthplace of Christopher Columbus. This explains the airline's name, and the tail logo, which is a stylized representation of the Santa Maria, the ship on which Columbus set out to discover America. Columbia operated this Herald (ex G-BFRJ) from 1984 until its bankruptcy in August 1986. A year later it was sold to Channel Express as G-CEXP, and in March 1996 it was wfu and put up for display on the visitor's terrace at London-Gatwick. It was removed from there in 2003, and by 2014 is sat derelict in a remote corner near the fire training area.

The third Herald built (in 1959), soon after arrival with BAF from Trans Brasil. There were only six Srs 100's made and fortunately this historically significant machine survives, appropriately preserved at Woodley where it was built

Looking good in Air UK's colours, before long the Herald would be supplanted by its Fokker rival. This one started as I-TIVU with Itavia, joined BIA in 12.73 and was dbr at Bournemouth 6.84

Seen prior to repaint in the new EAS livery, this Herald was acquired from Globe Air of Switzerland in 7.68 as F-OCLY. Registered G-SCTT to Channel Express in 8.88 and last flew on 19.1.97, being broken up at Bournemouth by 9.00 after doing time on the fire dump

Beautifully restored by the Herald Society and Museum of Berkshire Aviation, but very difficult to photograph due to the close fence - this shot, taken just before completion of red painting on top of wings, needed a tall ladder and a battle with some dense undergrowth full of brambles

There are dull and rainy days in Miami too... This former Air Anglia / British Air Ferries / Air UK Herald (ex G-BCWE) is starting its engines for the return flight to Guatemala. It had only flown with Aerovias for three years when it was stored at Guatemala City in 1991. It was still there in 2000 in very bad shape, and although unconfirmed, it seems likely that it was scrapped a few years later.
