Ex Polish Air Force, painted to represent an Mig-15 of the Soviet Union Air Force

This is the first X-35 and was originally the X-35A but later modified to include the shaft-driven lift-fan propulsion system (an example is on display behind the aircraft) for testing of the STOVL concept. This aircraft was the first in history to achieve a short takeoff, level supersonic dash and vertical landing in a single flight. Now on display at the Smithsonian NASM Udvar-Hazy Center.

Built for Canadian Pacific in October 1956 as CF-CZQ. Converted tp DC-6B(F) in 1959 and sold to AESA as YS-32C in October 1969. Transferred to the El Salvador Air Force in 1975. Retired in 1998.

Sold to the German Navy as 60+01.
