On departure the aircraft taxied downwind some distance and turned into wind which was west. We watched with some interest, my chief pilot included, and we all commented that there wasn't enough room. We saw the aircraft leave the water and then settle a couple of times.now getting really close to our dock. It rose for the third time to maybe 50 feet and stalled, dropped a wing and cartwheeled. We ran for the rescue boat and were alongside the wreckage very quick. The two passengers were already in the water so we hauled them into the boat. The pilot was sitting on top of aircraft barely wet.

This aircraft was used by Group Captain A F (Sandy) MacDougall as transport for his job as De Havilland Regional Manager (Central & South America) for . Also it was a demonstrator for the type.

Hangar under construction 1950 or 1951

This aircraft was incorrectly painted with registration VP-FAE when it should have been VP-FAF. The aircraft is about to make an initial test flight after reconstruction in the Falklands Islands. The pilot was RH (Bob) Fowler of De Havilland Canada

Purchased by Falkland Islands Dependencies Survey in 1949 for Antarctic operations. Shipped to Falklands in 1950 and thence operated by Falkland Islands Government Air Service until 1953. Airframe was used for naval target practice. The engine lay on the beach not far from the Beaver hangar. Now moved to the museum, I believe. The floats were sold to Saunders Island on West Falklands and used to make a barge.

On September 15th 1947 the aircraft crashed landing in poor visibility & approaching darkness and overturned. All onboard survived and using a fuel tank as a sledge began walking home. On September 22nd 1947 they were found and rescued by an American operated Noorduyn Norseman aircraft.
