This Varsity was the 18th built and delivered to the RAF in 1951 and served until final retirement from No. 6 FTS at RAF Finningley in 1976. It spent the next 12 years at Sibson Airfield near Peterborough before being purchased by Brooklands Museum in September 1988. Taken on charge in 7.52 and seen in store with 5MU after service with 5 FTS at RAF Oakington. Interestingly this machine had been used along with WL679 at Farnborough in the early 1960s on 'Airborne Rafter' trials in which MI5 attempted to track the radios of KGB agents in Britain using technology similar to TV detectors. Broken up and removed next year

During 1953 a standard Varsity from the production run of 163, WJ900, was selected for conversion at Hurn to Sigint capability for Sweden (and was replaced by an extra aircraft for the RAF, XD366). Two Canberras were also obtained for similar purposes. The arrival of two Caravelles in 1971 rendered these aircraft obsolete and the Varsity was fortunately set aside for preservation, along with one of the Canberras
