The Fokker was a reconnaissance biplane of which the Luchtvaart Afdeling (LVA, Dutch Army Aviation) received 31 examples. The type was a tremendous export success: some 200 were sold to Russia. The OMAR Mine Museum (OMAR = Organization for Mine clearance and Afghan Rehabilitation) in Kabul city unexpectedly showed me a number of preserved aircraft. Several former Afghan Air Force aircraft and helicopters were on display, but the war badly damaged most aircraft as well as the infrastructure of the museum. Luckily a large wall around the museum saved the inventory from further damage. This dual seat MiG-21 was in a terrible condition.

Delivered 1985 and withdrawn by 2008, now preserved but looking ready to go

Hunting down preserved aircraft is really rewarding when they look as nice as this Mirage on a beautiful evening in May. Little more than a glider airfield, LFPF is located west of Paris.
