This Junkers 52 was one of many that sank in the first summer of WWII in a lake near Hartvikvatnet in Norway. This one is one of several that were salvaged in 1980s. Now preserved in Speyer. This side carries code VB-JA the other side has code CA-JY. This RH side is more difficult to photograph, as it is close to the wall of this hangar and looking up you are blinded by the light coming though the glass roof.

On 13 April 1940 eleven Ju 52s landed on frozen Hartvig Lake to fly in a mountain artillery battery for the German troops in Narvik. Only one could take off again. Norwegian forces drove the Germans from the lake and tried to prepare three of the Ju 52s for their own use. Despite empty fuel drums strapped underneath the aircraft selected by the Norwegians, all ten Ju 52s on the lake eventually sank. Five were salvaged in good condition in the 1980s and 6821 is preserved in Speyer.

This was one of twelve Ju 52s that landed on frozen Lake Hartvikvatnet near Bjerkvik, Norway on 13 April 1940. All were abandoned and sank when the ice melted in May 1940, but five were recovered in 1986. The one seen here originally carried code VB-UP, but is now painted with fake codes "VB-JA" on the right side and "CA-JY" on the left side.
