Ex F-BGVD. A total of 178 Djinns were built, mostly for the French Army, including 3 for evaluation by the US Army as the YHO-1. (The helicopter behind is a Sud-Ouest SO.1110 Ariel II - 3 F-WFRQ c/n 1.)

The Djinn was the first mass produced turbine helicopter and the first French helicopter. It made its first flight in June 1953 and initially two single seat prototypes were built. The production version had two seats and a relatively undistinguished military and civilian career followed.

The second of the two single-seat prototypes of the Djinn tip-drive helicopter.

This 1953 built light helicopter is seen in the Musee de l'Air et de l'Espace.

Not much protection against the elements for the pilot of this light helicopter. The rotor was turned by compressed air fed to the tips of the blades. The two-seat SO.1221 variant was built in some numbers, and was tested favourably by the US Army as the YHO-1.
