This aircraft was captured at Iraq after a wheels-up landing at Mosul. While ostensibly an Iraqi air force aircraft, it was in reality flown by a Luftwaffe unit based in Iraq. The RAF repaired the Bf110, gave it an RAF serial and flew it to Egypt. HK846 was handed to 267 Squadron for use as a communications aircraft in North Africa. It was to be sent to South Africa to train pilots in German equipment. However HK846 belly-landed in Sudan on the way south and was not repaired. Photo from: Imperial War Museums
