Built in 1952 for Eastern. Acquired by Frontier Airways 1987 as an aerial applicator and ferried to Sheridan, WY. The operation stopped around 1987 after sister ship N40443 had crashed on take off from Buffalo, WY 27 June 1986 killing the crew and the remaining aircraft where put into storage. Apparently never used in its intended role N462M was made airworthy again after 14 years of storage and flown to Tucson on 8 September 2001 to join the Pima museum collection..

Delivered to Eastern Air Lines in March 1952 as N462A. Became N462M in August 1961 for Mohawk Airlines and served many different owners until its final retirement. Preserved at Pima since 2001.

There is something suspicious about that cylinder protruding through the nacelle.

Flown to the museum in ~2002 after being stored at Sheridan, Wyoming for a number of years.

During my visit to the museum last year all was normal so imagine my shock when I saw the cylinder protruding through the cowling of the #2 engine! All appeared legit to me until I received an email from Carlos Gomez. Carlos said that the cylinder protruding through the cowling was a front row cylinder but that it was protruding through the rear of the cowling above the rear row of cylinders. Gotta wonder what's going on here?

Delivered new to Eastern as N462A in March 1952. Operated by Piedmont Airlines from June 1967 until sale in July 1968 and here still wears their scheme in storage at Long Beach.
