KNILM's three Dragon Rapides were acquired for aerial surveying in Netherlands New Guinea on behalf of the NNGPM oil company, and PK-AKU is seen here at the new Babo airfield. The Rapides proved of limited utility, however, and after replacement by two Sikorsky S-38 amphibians the surviving pair were employed elsewhere in Indonesia, with AKU crashing on Madura Island on 16 August 1938.
