The Ba.44 was an adaption of the licensed DH.89 Dragon Rapide, changed to Italian construction techniques. Five were built for Ala Littoria plus one for Paraguay which, having c/n 4302, may have been the prototype. Here we see c/n 4303, ex MM267, I-AERE and I-ORSO. Sent to Libya, it was used by the air force to transport officials including Governor Balbo. From the fall of 1935 it became an ambulance and it seems to wear officious serial MM4303. By June 1940 it was involved in the invasion of Greece, joining the four others which had also been militarised. 4303 was then assigned MM60426. It crashed near Tirana on 9 March 1941. Ex X7521, reported as sold to as scrap to Short Brothers at Rochester in April 1949 and subsequently registered as G-ALOV. Sold to Societe Transports Aeriens du Gabon in March 1954. Destroyed by fire while starting its engines at Ekouata, French Equatorial Africa, 16th March 1955.

Originally registered in New Zealand as ZK-BFK. Shipped to Brisbane in 1957 and registered to Airwork Company Ltd based at Archerfield, Brisbane. Sold to Carsair Air Services in May 1959 and re-registered as VH-BIF. Photo - Peterson Family Collection

Built in 1944 by Brush Coachworks as DH.89B Dominie NR750. Civilianised as DH89A Rapide G-AKIF in September 1947. Registered in Norway as LN-BEZ between August 1971 and June 1973 after which it returned to the UK as G-AKIF and remains current, operating with Classic Wings at Duxford at time of upload.

Constructed as a DH-89A in 1942, military serial NR777 with the RAF. D-7 with the Belgian Air Force. First post-restoration flight in NZ in March 2006. Shipped to Germany in 2015, now D-IKFG.

Subsequently the subject of a magnificent tour-de-force restoration by David and Mark Miller. Current in 2024 in Scottish Airways markings.

Taken on charge as X7524 but diverted to Misr Airways, Egypt. U.K. CofA No. 6948 issued on 4 November 1942 as SU-ACS. Lost at sea en route Egypt and replaced by X7384.

This airline was founded in 1933 as Blackpool & West Coast Air Services, but shortened its name to West Coast Air Services a few years later. This aircraft survived WW2 and registered in Spain as EC-AKO on 1 December 1954 to Ignacio Soler de la Riva; operated by Aeromar, Barcelona. After retirement from use it was stored. Found in a barn in 1998 it was acquired by Museo de l'Air, Cuatro Vientos. Restored to display standards (2002-2004); painted in Spanish Republican camouflage as "40-1".
