VH-BQI was one of three Sea Otters to serve with the Australian navy from 1948 to 1953. A few months after being civil registered in December 1954 it struck a submerged tree stump at RAAF Rathmines. Despite being holed, it reached the flying boat ramp safely. There it sat for many years until relocated to a rural property at nearby Awaba where it slowly fell apart. The weathering exposed its former military marks. The cockpit and nose now preserved at the Fleet Arm Museum, Nowra.
