This P-51 was assigned to the 318th Fighter Squadron in 1944, part of the 'Checkertail Clan' of the 325th Fighter Group, hence the colours in which it now flies. It is no stranger to Italy, having been based at Lesina on Italy's southern Adriatic coast. The unit flew escort missions for bombers attacking Romanian, German, Austrian, Czechoslovak and Hungarian oil and synthetic fuel processing facilities. Operated with the MN ANG post-war and then registered N7710C and CF-FUZ. Now German-based.

It moved through several owners before being exported to Australia in April 2008. It was registered VH-ZSH on 27 November that year and is currently based in Toowoomba, Qld. It seems to have been partly repainted since moving to Australia, and now carries the appropriate name 'Miss Stress' on the port nose.
