Delivered to the Central Flying School at Point Cook in 1918. Sold to a civilian buyer in 1919 but retained its full military markings until it entered the register as G-AUBW in June 1921. It was destroyed in a hangar fire in 1931 by which time it was registered VH-UBW. At the time of the photo C9374 was travelling with an Avro 504 giving rural Australians with their first experiences of flight such as those in the tiny community of Farrell Flat. Despite the RAF markings, this was a civil aircraft. There were no civil registrations in Australia at the time it arrived in Melbourne. It would become G-AUEA in 1923. The photo is believed to be at Port Melbourne aerodrome soon after it was assembled after shipment from the UK. Port Melbourne was one of a cluster of three airports in this area, Coode Island and Fishermens Bend being the others. All have closed. Photo from: State Library of Victoria

One of the 2 D.H. 6 prototypes either A5175 or A5176 showing the traditional de Havilland rudder, however production machines were fitted with a more angular rudder. The D.H 6 was used as a training aircraft and first flew in late 1916 with Geoffrey de Havilland at the controls. This scanned image is a reprint by Samson Clark of London (No SCDH 9667), reprint date and photographer unknown.
