Ex P4-KFB, registered Dec 1996. Transferred to Aboitiz Air and damaged beyond repair on landing RPLL (Manilla) 16th Nov 2006

This structure, believed to be part of the former N116MP, is one of two former Mid-Pacific Air YS-11s that were bought by Atlantis Submarines Hawaii over twenty years ago and deliberately sunk off the shore of Waikiki to serve as artificial reefs and scuba diving sites. The crumbling mid-section of this aircraft now lies 115 feet (35 meters) below the surface, where it serves as a home for an assortment of marine life. Bought from TOA Domestic in 2.81, this was one of more than 20 YS-11s used by Mid Pacific for passengers or freight through the Eighties. This one was converted to cargo configuration in 1985 and was wfu at Oakland in the early Nineties but is no longer extant

Manila was the last haven for many of the world's surviving YS-11s and it was great to catch this superbly painted and rarely seen example departing on a package flight. The aircraft has Korean Air Lines, Philippine Airlines, TOA Domestic, JAS, Air Aruba and Asian Spirit among its previous operators but unfortunately veered off the runway on landing at MNL on 16.11.06 and is no longer in service
