This structure, believed to be part of the former N116MP, is one of two former Mid-Pacific Air YS-11s that were bought by Atlantis Submarines Hawaii over twenty years ago and deliberately sunk off the shore of Waikiki to serve as artificial reefs and scuba diving sites. The crumbling mid-section of this aircraft now lies 115 feet (35 meters) below the surface, where it serves as a home for an assortment of marine life. Photo taken through a porthole window of one of the Atlantis submarines.

Manila was the last haven for many of the world's surviving YS-11s and it was great to catch this superbly painted and rarely seen example departing on a package flight. The aircraft has Korean Air Lines, Philippine Airlines, TOA Domestic, JAS, Air Aruba and Asian Spirit among its previous operators but unfortunately veered off the runway on landing at MNL on 16.11.06 and is no longer in service
