This is actually CA-16 Wirraway A20-687 which was taken on charge by the RAAF in December 1944 and was modified for target towing. Post-war, it suffered four accidents before disposal to a private buyer in 1960 who may have intended to convert the aircraft for crop spraying. In 1968 it was taken to Moorabbin where over the next eight years a restoration was undertaken to represent a CA-9 Wirraway in the dive-bombing role. Moved on loan to the RAAF Museum in 1977, it was purchased in 1999

This aircraft is actually A20-688 and was painted as that when first displayed. The correct serial was lost when it was repainted from a camouflage finish to a silver finish.

Now with the Air Force Association museum at Bull Creek displayed as a 55 Squadron aircraft although it never served with that squadron.

Sold by the RAAF to Marshall's Spreading Service at Albury with a plan to convert it to a cropduster. That never happened and the aircraft remained in storage until acquired by the Camden Museum of Aviation, which displayed it in its RAAF colours.

This Wirraway was not brought on RAAF charge, as A20-722, until right at the very end of the Second World War, in August 1945. It served until 1958 when it was sold and eventually recovered from a farm near Horsham, Vic. It was restored to flying condition by Borg Sorensen between 1984 and 2002. Registered VH-CAC(4), it made its first post-restoration flight on 8 June 2002. It made its last flight on 28 April 2018 on delivery to the Nhill Aviation Heritage Centre.

A20-649 was retired from RAAF service in 1958 and sold to Commonwealth Aircraft Corporation for conversion to a Ceres cropduster. This did not happen and it went to the RAAF Museum, although not owned by it. -649 became the basis of a warbird project (VH-WIR was reserved). The project was not completed and it was sold to the Fantasy of Flight Museum in Polk City, Florida where it was damaged in a hurricane. Subsequently, another Wirrway became VH-WIR (c/n CA16-1104). A20-719 was sold by the museum in 1982 and became a restoration project that emerged as VH-WRX. It was destroyed in a crash during an air show at Nowra in 1999.
