The Pacific Northwest Aviation Historical Foundation established the "Museum of Flight" name in 1968 at a small 10,000 square foot rented facility, rented at the Seattle Center. The museum acquired this B-47 in 1969 after it flew the last Stratojet mission and was flown to Boeing Field. Stored until the present museum location was opened in 1987, the aircraft was displayed at the entrance for a while until stored again and later restored. It now rests in the Museum's covered open air Aviation Pavilion.

1953: TOS USAF as a B-47E. 1963: Converted to WB-47E; assigned to the 57th Weather Reconnaissance Squadron, 9th Weather Reconnaissance Wing at Hickam AFB, HI. It flew weather recon missions for the Navy throughout these years. 29 Oct '69: Last recon mission for any B-47. 30 Oct '69: Flown to Boeing Field, Seattle, WA, via McClellan AFB, CA; last flight of an active duty B-47. Ownership was taken over by the Naval Aviation Museum and loaned to the Boeing Museum of Flight for display. Photo shows it waiting restoration on the military ramp.

10 Apr 1953: TOS USAF as B-47E. 3/54: 43rd Bombardment Wing, Davis-Monthan AFB, AZ. 5/56: 96th Bomb Wing, Altus AFB, OK. 12/57: 380th Bomb Wing, Plattsburg AFB, NY. 8/61: 96th Bomb Wing, now based at Dyess AFB, TX. 1/53: Converted to WB-47E. 5/63: 55th Weather Squadron, McClellan AFB, CA. 3/66: 53rd Weather Squadron, Hunter AFB, GA. 6/66: Ramey AFB, Puerto Rico. 7/66: SOC and ferried to the New England Air Museum, Bradley Airport, Windsor Locks, CT. 3 Oct 1979: Damaged when a tornado struck the airport. Repaired using strut and engines from 53-6244. 2002: To Hill AFB, UT for display.

34 B-47E bombers were converted for weather reconaissance work in the early 1960s. They carried no armament, an instrument pod in the bomb bay and cameras in the nose to photograph cloud formations. The WB-47Es were retired in the fall of 1969.

This magnificent aircraft stands as a quasi-gate guard before the Museum of Flight at BFI.
