Two Boulton Paul Balliols survive in Sri Lanka in the excellent museum in Colombo-Ratmalana. First reported in the museum in September 1993, this is one of twelve Balliols operated from 1954 by the Royal Ceylon Air Force, the predecessor of today's Sri Lanka Air Force (SLAF). Ceylon was the only export customer for this type of aircraft.

The Balliol was a short lived trainer in the RAF(1954/56) This particular a/c arrived at Cranwell on 1st April 1954 but on the 14th July 1954 it suffered an engine failure and forced landed near Barkston Heath being scrapped shortly afterwards. It was based at Barkston Heath at the time(info' courtesy Aviation Safety Network(Wikibase) The RAFC badge is just visible on the fin. First day of a great trip to the Sri Lanka Air Force that started at Ratmalana AFB, Colombo. also on base is the Sri Lanka Air Force museum where this Boulton Paul P.108 Balliol T.Mk.2 (CA310 / BP/11C) of the Royal Ceylon Air Force is. The RCyAF was the only export customer for the type.

Entered service in 1953 and sold as scrap at No.22 MU Silloth in March 1960.

Scrapped in 1957, the cockpit section is stored at the back of one of the display hangars along with a Firefly. It has since moved on, to the Tettenhall Transport Heritage Centre near Wolverhampton.

School of Fighter Control

The Balliol advanced trainer had side-by-side seating plus a rear seat for a second student, but the latter was removed during the type's short RAF career. It looks rather fat from behind and very large standing next to a Chipmunk. This aircraft has been rebuilt around the cockpit section of WN149.

Balliol T.2 coded 'CP' lies at the bottom of this heap of aircraft at the Unimetal scrapyard. WG117 bears the blue stripe of the Royal Air Force College, Cranwell.
