UK's only FAW.1 on display at RAFM Cosford. Gloster's last fighter was designed as RAF's first all-weather interceptor, entering frontline service in 1956 with No. 46 Sqn. at RAF Odiham. The FAW.1 was powered by a pair of Armstrong-Siddeley Sapphire Sa.6 10201 and 10301 engines of 36.9 kN thrust each that required a cartridge starter. The aircraft was fitted with the AI.17 radar and 30mm cannon. The initial production run of 40 FAW.1s also served as test platforms. A total of 435 Javelins were built and served in seventeen RAF squadrons plus OCUs, many being converted to different marks.

Although not very clear(if only I had a more modern camera) the CFE Squadron badge is on the fin with "Air Fighting Development Squadron" written underneath. Parked at the rear of 19 MU Picketston site awaiting being "Reduced to Produce." Sold as scrap 30th July 1962

Was 7717M as instructional airframe and display aircraft. Later scrapped.

A very recent arrival for the Museum in 1975. This Javelin is still at Cosford in 2021, now indoors.

Displayed in the Cold War Museum as a part of the RAF Museum Cosford Collection

Retained by the Ministry of Aviation for trials (delivered on 28 April 1955) and never delivered to the RAF. Used at Yatesbury for ground instruction from 13 August 1957, then as RAF Stanmore Park's gate guardian from 20 May 1963 until it was sold to South Africa (Thunder City) on 24 September 1998. It was repainted in overall gloss black, and displayed on pylons as the Thunder City gate guard.
