This C-160 acquired its name as it accompanied three Zairian C-130 Hercules to parachute soldiers of the French Foreign Legion into Kolwezi in May, 1978 to free French hostages after Katangese soldiers, supported by Angola, occupied the city. The plane was retired to the museum in August, 2012.

'Ville de Kolwezi - 1978' (Lefts side) insignia of ET 1/61 & 2° REP (both sides) to commemorate the raid on Kolwezi by the 2°REP to deleiver civilian (mostly european) during the civil war.

This aircraft was involved 30 years ago ( May 19 1978) in the airborne operation for the rescueing of hundreds of peoples who were held hostages by the Kantanga rebels in Kolwezi (Zaire) . It's the reason why she is named "ville de Kolwezi" and also wearing the 2sd Foreign Legion para regiment badge (2eme REP) .

During detachments, far away from home, maintenance continues. This French Transall lacks a propeller and was awaiting a new one arriving from France.

Taken part to "VOLFAP 2007" drill. Now preserved in Musée de l'Air et de l'Espace in Paris.
