Delivered to NASA as NASA 012 in 1963. Repainted as N812NA / NASA 812 in 1970. Photo taken shortly before its last flight in December 1986. Preserved at Edwards AFB. Moved to Palmdale, converted to an XF-104 replica and put on display in 2002. Repainted as 012 in 2005.

The second of three Starfighters delivered directly to NASA rather than transferred from the Air Force. Originally with code 012 in 1963, the aircraft was registered N812NA in 1970. Last flight was December 29, 1986, after which it was put on display at the USAF Flight Test Museum, Edwards AFB. The fighter was transferred to Lockheed at Palmdale, CA and converted to resemble the XF-104 by removing the fairing on the fuselage spine and inlet cones. Displayed at Palmdale in 2002, it was put back in NASA colors during 2005 (with the XF-104 mods still in place).
