Delivered to NASA as NASA 012 in 1963. Repainted as N812NA / NASA 812 in 1970. Photo taken shortly before its last flight in December 1986. Preserved at Edwards AFB. Moved to Palmdale, converted to an XF-104 replica and put on display in 2002. Repainted as 012 in 2005.

Former USAF 56-3022. To Flight Systems as N405FS in 1979. Returned to the USAF as 56-3022 in 1993 and stored at Davis-Monthan AFB with park code FE642. To Mansfield, OH in 1999 for preservation. Marked as 56783.

Second prototype. Used as a test aircraft. To the Air Force Flight Test Center Museum at Edwards AFB in 1992.

In 1986 this F-111A was active in the NASA AFTI program (Advanced Fighter Technology Integration). Seen here in the main hangar at the 1986 Edwards Open House. On the fin it carries the USAF unit abbreviations AFWAL (Air Force Wright Aeronautical Laboratories) and AFFTC (Air Force Flight Test Center) and the NASA unit abbreviations DFRF (Dryden Flight Research Facility) and LaRC (Langley Research Center).
