Test flown as G-2-12 4 February 1966 and delivered to the SAAF's 24 Squadron 17 October 1966 where it served until retired and transferred to the National Museum of Military History 10 May 1992. Between 1987 and 1989 this airframe underwent a major overhaul said to have cost 13 million Rand at the time. There are speculations that this was a modification to make the aircraft capable of delivering South Africa's nuclear weapons. However, the nuclear programme was shelved and the weapons destroyed. The South African Air Force was the only foreign operator of the Buccaneer with an initial order of 16 and an option for a further 20 that was cancelled. One aircraft, "417" was lost on the delivery flight in1965 and this is one of five remaining when service operations with No. 24 Squadron were terminated on 28 March 1991.

Handed over to the SAAF in March 1966 and arrived in a batch of four at Cape Town the following October. Into the museum collection in May 1992 despite having been modified just one year before.
