Until this photo surfaced, the only known photo of VH-USM was a grainy image of it extracted from the background of a 1935 newspaper photo. It had spats in that photo but it is unclear when they were fitted and how long they remained on the aircraft. It is also not clear how much flying it did after 1942. Its CoA expired in 1950 and USM was cancelled from the register in 1955. A fuselage was made using the metal parts that had survived into the 21st century before it was shipped to the UK.
