After refurbishment and a respray, the nose section of G-ORAL was moved into the Avro Heritage Museum display hall in August 2023.

The airline was active for less than two years.

On a working-up training detail at Prestwick. Chieftain Airways was a short-lived Scottish start-up airline providing scheduled services from Glasgow and Edinburgh to Brussels, Frankfurt and Hamburg. Its two HS-748s were accordingly registered G-GLAS and G-EDIN. Services started on 30/3/1987, but the airline entered administration on 13/5/1987 after only six weeks of commercial activity. This aircraft eventually became G-ORAL of Emerald Airways. Scrapped in 2008, with its nose and cockpit section being preserved by Liverpool's Speke Aerodrome Heritage Group.

Scottish European flew a pair of HS748s from Glasgow and Edinburgh to near-continent cities. Not unexpectedly, they were unable to make a profit and soon ceased operating.

Operated by Emerald Airways. Reregistered G-ORAL after painting in the later Reed Aviation scheme. Believed to be named after an Emerald Chief Engineer.

Leased from Emerald Airways Feb 95 to Aug 99. Returned to Emerald as G-ORAL

F-27 G-JEAD behind. Broken up at Blackpool in June 2009 but the nose survives at Woodford.

Delivered to Trinidad and Tobago Air Services as 9Y-TFS in 1977. Merged into BWIA in 1980. To Chieftain Airways as G-GLAS in 1987 then to Scottish European Airways as G-BPDA in 1988. To Janes Aviation in 1991. Renamed to Emerald Airways in 1993. Reregistered as G-ORAL in 1999. Withdrawn from use at Blackpool in 2006 when Emerald collapsed. Scrapped in 2009. Nose preserved.

Now one of the exhibits at the Avro Heritage Museum, sited on what was the old Woodford Aerodrome, where the 748s were built.

Reed Aviation c/s. This was nice - it isn't so often one gets to see a 748 flying anymore. Substituting for the usual West Air ATP, I believe. Lifting off Rwy 36L.

This ex-TTAS/BWIA 748 served Chieftain for the duration of their short existence from Jan 87 to Oct 88, then going to Scottish European as G-BPDA. Stored at Blackpool in Reed Aviation colours along with the other Emerald ones and b/u 4.09 although nose section saved and now on display at the old Liverpool Speke airport (Crowne Plaza Hotel)
