Built for American Airlines and taken over the USAAF as a C-50. Cargo doors fitted on the right side where American AL DC-3s had their passenger doors . Sold to Australian National Airways postwar as VH-ANI and fitted with Wright R-1820 engines in place of Pratt and Whitney R-1830s. Sold in New Zealand in 1955. Pratt and Whitney R-1830s refitted. An oddity among the DC-3s acquired by ANA after World War II. Ordered by American Airlines, it was taken over by the USAAC on the production line and delivered as a C-50. Fitted with a C-47 style double cargo door but on the starboard side instead of port. ANA used it as a freighter. Sold in New Zealand as ZK-BWE in 1955. Fitted with Pratt and Whitney R-1830 engines in place of Wright R-1820s before delivery.
