Delivered to Northwest Airlines as N6404 in 1946. Sold in 1961. Reregistered as EL-ADR in 1962, CF-TAW in 1965 and N31356 in 1976. To Central Air Services in 1982 and converted to a firebomber. Flown to Avra Valley in 1992, firebombing tank removed and painted in USAF colours as 42914. To Aces High in 2002 and flown to North Weald in 2002 for filming which did not happen. Scrapped in 2015. Nose section preserved at RAF Burtonwood Heritage Centre.

K25 slide scan. Delivered April 1946 as N6404 to Northwest Orient. The original registration is still visible on the tail after so many years. Aircraft was aquired by Aces High in 2002 and flown over the Atlantic to North Weald for an abortive movie project. Deteriorating over the years it was scrapped in 2015.

Operated by Central Air Service. Later with Aces High (for film work) and then stored at North Weald (England).

Seen at the Flypast Magazine fly-in. This aircraft had been in open storage for some considerable time. It was painted to resemble a USAF C-54, but in fact this machine never saw any military service at all. It was scrapped in 2019 but the nose section was preserved at Burtonwood.

Originally built for Northwest Airlines in 1946 and here operating with Transair on DEW-line resupply flights for NORAD. It went to the US in the early 1970s and was later painted in USAF markings for a movie about the Berlin Airlift in 2002. After the movie it spent many years in open storage until scrapped at North Weald, Essex, England in 2015.

In fake markings, with a serial based on the aircraft's c/n. After years of storage at Avra Valley, AZ, this aircraft was flown to North Weald in late Sep 2002, together with C-54Q N44914 seen parked behind. Both were intended for use in a movie about the Berlin Airlift, but this project was cancelled and neither aircraft flew again. N31356 was eventually broken up here 13 years later, in early Dec 2015. Its forward fuselage was trucked out to the RAF Burtonwood Heritage Centre (part of the Gulliver's World theme park) near Warrington on 9 Dec 2015. N44914 was still at North Weald by Jun 2018.

Scrapped in the UK. Nose section preserved. Curiously, despite being a postwar civil DC-4, N31356 has masqueraded as a USAF C-54, in film and as a static display, since its air tanker days ended. The preservation of its nose section at Burtonwood is as a tribute to C-54's role in the Berlin Airlift.

I was told this this aircraft landed with its No.1 engine on fire. Notice the feathered propeller and the fire damage to the nacelle. Ex Central Air Service...registered to Maricopa Aircraft Inc on Sep 26, 2000.

Hard to believe this "crate" made it to North Weald from Tucson, AZ. Its military looks are fake. Scrapped at North Weald in December 2015 with the forward fuselage going to the RAF Burtonwood Heritage Centre at the former RAF Burtonwood Airfield in Warrington, UK.
