The South African Department of Transport bought two Puma Js in support of the South African National Antarctic Expedition in 1980. They were operated by the SAAF's 30 Squadron at AFB Ysterplaat until that squadron was disbanded in 1991 when they were transferred to 22 Sqd and later sold on the civilian market.
