First flown in August 1964, the aircraft arrived in Essendon on 16 October 1964 and commenced revenue operations on the 2 November 1964, its last revenue flight being on the 14th of February 1976. When TAA took delivery of its first DC-9 it took the opportunity to revise its jet livery. "The Nation's Jetline" was replaced by "T-Jet" and the previously white painted fin was stripped to bare metal. VH-TJA was the only 727 to receive this livery. It lasted a few months before the fin was given a white base coat.
