In the striking colours of an independent Whistler Air's final scheme, sitting at its base on the appropriately named Green Lake at Whistler, awaiting its next business. Beyond the glacial lake, forest fire smoke obscures the mountains in the middle distance. Taken over by Harbour Air in 2012, and by 2015 repainted in a variant of Harbour Air's own colours albeit retaining Whistler Air titles.

The Whistler Air division of Harbour Air provides services to Whistler, BC and sightseeing over the Coastal Mountains, Garibaldi Provincial Park and Pemberton Ice Cap. First delivered to the US Army as U-1A 59-2224 in 1960, it was badly damaged on take off in Vietnam in 1969. In 1973 the wreck was sold for a mere $272, being rebuilt and sold to Kodiak Western Airlines. In 1986 it met with another serious accident while operated by Bering Air in Alaska. Rebuild and turbine conversion didn't happen till 1999, when it joined Whistler. Winter 2002/03 even saw a period of operations in Antarctica.

This DHC-3 Otter was delivered in May 1960 to the US Army and flew in the US and Vietnam as 59-2224 until damaged in May 1969. Shipped back to the US, it was rebuilt by Harold J. Hansen in Seattle (BFI) in the early 1970s. After flying in Alaska, Canada and Alaska again, it rebuilt as a Vazar DHC-3T Turbo Otter and sold to Whistler Air in 1999. Mike Quinn founded the airline in 1985 and established a floating base on Green Lake in the resort town of Whistler in 1994. In Dec. 2002-Jan 2003 it flew tourists to the South Pole in Antarctica. Harbour Air bought Whistler Air and C-GEND in May 2012.

At the time this photo was taken, the Otter was reversing away from the dock before departing with a load of tourists. This wonderful livery is just a memory since the company was absorbed into the Harbour Air group.

Since Harbour Air took over Whistler Air, most of the flying has been done with Turbo Otters. Settling down into the water after landing at Vancouver's Coal Harbour.

History going back to 1960 as US Army 59-2224, C-GEND sports a version of Harbour Air's new color scheme with a sunburst over the mountains gracing the tail.
