In the storage area at MASDC. Transferred to the US Army in 1960 and retired into storage Jan 1978. This aircraft had been bought the day before on 13 Oct 1978 and went onto the civil register as N9015Q and was operated by EMI Aircraft Services until being seized by the US Dept of Justice in Aug 1979. It then flew as a water bomber for ARDCO and was active at Opa Locka with Florida Air Transport in 2012 when I saw it again. Acquired by the Berlin Airlift Historical Foundation in Sep 2020 as N500EJ and still current in Dec 2023.

C-54D "Spirit of Freedom" participated in a Celebration of Life event for "Candy Bomber" Gail Halvorsen at Provo, UT on the 20th of May. I photographed it the next day taking off at Spanish Fork Airport for a candy drop re-enactment. It formed up with a USAF C-17 with the C-54 dropping about 500 candy laden miniature parachutes to a large crowd of enthusiastic youngsters who had gathered at the airport for the event.

After 9 months of hard work by BAHF volunteers, C-54D N9015Q makes her first flight since August 2014. After completing an uneventful one hour test flight, the aircraft landed safely at the airport. The next day she departed, under the able command of Tim Chopp, for Walterboro, South Carolina where the interior from tornado damaged N500EJ will be transferred. After a June 2021 paint shop appointment in Arkansas, she will join the airshow circuit.

After 9 months of hard work by BAHF volunteers, C-54D N9015Q makes her first flight since August 2014. After completing an uneventful one hour test flight, the aircraft landed safely at the airport. The next day she departed, under the able command of Tim Chopp, for Walterboro, South Carolina where the interior from tornado damaged N500EJ will be transferred. After a June 2021 paint shop appointment in Arkansas, she will join the airshow circuit.

The Berlin Airlift Historical Society's new C-54D/DC-4 underwent gear retraction testing on a rather rainy day in the Sunshine State. The aircraft will replace C-54E N500EJ, which was damaged by a tornado in South Carolina in April 2020. N9015Q will be painted in the same colors as N500EJ and will assume that registration. Tim Chopp hopes to have the aircraft airworthy in late February and successful high speed taxi testing was completed on January 31st.
