The anchor on the intake gives the rough time frame away: applied during a squadron exchange with MFG 2 (Eggebek, D) these were applied.

In October 1994 the aircraft was painted by artists for a special project at the Military Air Museum at Zeist. In June 1995 it was transported to the storage area at Soesterberg Air Base. In the summer of 1996 it went to Bad Oeynhausen where it stayed until it was picked up again by the Royal Netherlands Air Force Museum on December 13th, 2013 and brought back to Soesterberg. Soon after the aircraft was scrapped. (Picture was taken by late Michael Riedesser, slide once given to Int. F-104 Society).

The Starfighter was withdrawn in 1984 and put into storage at Ypenburg. In 1987 a spottersday was organized to photograph these aircraft. Although in open storage for over three years the condition of the aircraft was quite good.

Seen here is D-5804 carrying "UFO" on its tail (that had the few remaining Starfighters on strength) getting ready for take off for the final RNLAF F-104 mission on 21 November 1984, together with D-8062, D-8258, D-5803 and D-5810.

This F-104 shows the badge of the Conversie en All-Weather Vlucht (CAV), which was the Volkel conversion unit on the Starfighter.
