Early bare metal livery

84001 was originally leased to the Flygvapnet in February 1965 having the FMS 64-0546, thereby becoming the first Hercules in service in a European country before being bought outright in September 1965. The plane was retired in 2014 and stored for many years at Marshall's of Cambridge (UK) before being returned to Sweden in 2022. The plane is currently stored outside the main entrance to Aeroseum, along with 84003 out of shot the right. It was originally intended that 84001 be preserved at the Flygvapenmuseum at Linköping/Malmen, so time will tell.

Complete! All eight Tp84 (C-130H) Hercules of the Flygvapnet F7, 71. Transportflygdivisionen on the Såtenäs flightline. 84001/841 leading the line with 84002/842, 84003/843, 84004/844, 84005/845, 84006/846, 84007/847 and 84008/848. The Hercules' currently (2021) belong to the 71 Airlift squadron, still based at Såtenäs.

At the time of its involvement in the Congo Crisis, the Swedish air force had little transport capacity, but its first C-130E was hired for evaluation in 1965 and soon bought. It was this machine, US serial 64-0546, becoming 84001 and seen here civilian-registered during the Biafran Airlift at Santa Isabel (now Malabo). 84001 was retired in 2014.
