haven't seen her flying during my whole stay - only the Turbo DC-3 was active at the time

About to touch down on runway 15 at Anchorage, AK. I first photographed this DC-3 over a half century ago, and we're both still flying!

C/n 25720 ex N85FA, N47071, USAAF 43-48459. Preserved from 13 March 2013 at Champaign Aviation Museum, Grimes Field Airport, Ohio.

One of three C-47s in use with Desert Air alongside a leased BT-67. The long nose dates back to the 1980s when used as an avionics testbed by the Westinghouse Electrics Corporation.

Delivered to the USAAF as 42-92995 in 1944. To NC44587 in 1946, N44587 after 1948, CF-ONH in 1962, N44587 in 1963, CF-ONH in 1964 and N44587 in 1969. To Desert Air in 2001 and still current with them in 2021.

If you ever make it to Sossusvlei, take a one hour flight in a small Cessna like V5-DAT over the vast sand dunes. It's worth the ride, and cheaper than the hot air ballon.

This hard working DC-3 flies almost every day during the busy summer months.

After being loaded with two reels of cable, this veteran freight dog heads out on another routine flight to the Alaskan outback. The large nose radome was probably installed in the 1980's while in service with Westinghouse Electric Corporation as avionics test bed.
