Often regarded as one of the most aesthetic aeroplanes ever produced by Italy, the Reggiane Re.2005 Sagittario (Archer) went into service with the Regia Aeronautica as a fighter and fighter-bomber during the later years of WWII. Only 48 examples had been delivered before the Armistice (the museum quotes 32 as of 1943), and these fighters took part in the defence of Naples, Rome and Sicily, with the survivors finally perishing in the Battle of Berlin in German insignia. This fuselage section is the only original survivor of this type.

This is the only ca.9 built and was flown for the first time in the summer of 1911 and served at the flying school annexed to the Caproni workshops in Vizzola Ticino. On 20th January 1912, piloted by Enrico Cobioni, an instructor at the Caproni school, the Ca.9 beat the world speed record for aircraft with less than 40 hp (30 kW).

The Caproni Ca.100 was the standard trainer aircraft of the Regia Aeronautica in the 1930s and some 700 examples of this tandem, two-seat, biplane were built. This plane was originally built with landing gear but later converted into a seaplane. After being SOC it became I-DISC but retired after after an incident in 1964. The plane was denated to the museum in 1970.

The FL.3 civilian two-seater first flew in 1939 as a product of Francis Lombardi's firm Avia (Anonima Vercellese Industria Aeronautica), established in Vercelli in 1938. This airframe was built in 1947 as production resumed after the war. The company name then changed to 'Francis Lombardi' as he also made cars. Not on display at the Caproni museum.

An early 1920s light aircraft, the M.20 was built in limited numbers. In 1930 this one was registered I-AABO, by then fitted with new, thicker wings and a 45-hp Salmson engine replacing the original Anzani. Preserved in the markings of an M.20 racer of the 1924-1925 period. Not on public display.

The Saiman 202 two-seat touring monoplane first flew in 1938 and was ordered in 1939 as a military trainer. Approximately 400 examples were built and this one, manufactured by SACA in 1943, is the only survivor. It flew as I-BIOL after the war. Now it wears its original miltary serial and a PST code of the Pistoia flying school. Unfortunately not on display in the Caproni museum.

Wooden light jet trainer, powered by a small French Palas turbojet, designed by Stelio Frati and built by an offshoot of the old Caproni company here at Trento. First flown on 20 May 1952 as F-RAIA, the sole F.5 later became MM553 and I-FACT. Unfortunately not on public display in the Caproni museum's storage hangar. Frati later produced the similar Procaer F.400 Cobra and, decades later in Belgium, the Promavia F.1300 Jet Squalus.

Designed as a fighter, the Ansaldo SVA found a role as a reconnaissance aircraft, having very good performance and long range. Piloted by Gino Allegri, 11777 took part in a famous leaflet raid to Vienna on 9 August 1918. Testing of the Ca.163 aerobatic aircraft and its two-seat variant, the Ca.164 military trainer, revealed some poor handling characteristics, but the Ca.164 was pressed into production nevertheless. At least 280 Ca.164s were built, including 70 delivered to France in the first half of 1940. In Italian service they were mostly employed as liaison or 'hack' aircraft. The sole Ca.163, which wore I-WEST in 1939, survived. Note that the upper wing is shorter than the lower wing, as on the Ca.100.
