On 4 May 1917, six USN destroyers arrived in Cork, then in the UK, to help fight the German U-boat menace. By October 1918 at least 9000 Americans were based in the area and a seaplane station had been built at Aghada. Operations began on 30 September 1918 and 64 sorties were flown until the 11 November armistice, when there were some 28 seaplanes at Aghada. Photo from: National Museum of the US Navy

After its military service as A5483 it became civil as NC2172. At Pensacola it was restored with its original serial A5483.

Curtiss MF Boat of 1919 preserved wearing late WW1 period US Navy markings

1919-built two-seat training flying boat designed by Curtiss but built by the Naval Aircraft Factory at Philadelphia. Designated MF by the USN being a greatly modified and updated version of the earlier F series. Sold out of service as NC2172. Later acquired for preservation.
