Taxiing out from Northwind's Homer base to depart from Beluga Lake on another Alaskan wildlife census sortie. Built in 1950. Registered to "Decreeft Joseph" of Homer, Alaska from 1989. The founder of Northwind Aviation at Homer was Jose de Creeft.

Moored beside and below Alaska Highway 1 at the southwest end of Beluga Lake, Homer, Alaska. Delivered new to the USAF in 1952 as L-20A 51-16560. Began its civilian career as N17396 in 1976. Became N111EB in 1977. Registered to Wolf Trail Lodge, Anchorage from 1990. Later operating for Uyak Air Services, Kodiak, Alaska.

Operated by Kachemak Bay Flying Service Inc. offering a range of local area scenic flights in this "Fully Restored 1929 Classic". I took a spectacular flight in it, spiralling up towards the top of the steep mountain range which shelters Kachemak Bay. The six passenger seats were wicker chairs. Flew on floats in Alaska in summer and on wheels in California in the winter from a Santa Barbara address.
