A famous Wal. Ex N-25 of Roald Amundsen - c/n incorrectly listed as 25 in British register. Used by Frank Courtney for transatlantic attempt, fitted with Napier Lion engines. Attempt aborted. To D-1422, fitted with BMW engines. Successful Atlantic crossing with Wolfgang von Gronau in 1930. Preserved in Münich museum. Heavily damaged by Allied bombing in 1944. S1595 won the 1931 Schneider Trophy. No foreign competitors made it to Calshot so Britain scored an easy victory. The other S.6B, S1596, broke the absolute world air speed record, reaching 655.7 km/h (407.5 mph).
