En route from Naples to its base in Dallas, Texas, and operated by Naval Reserve Base Flight, NAS Fort Worth. A rare visitor to Northolt that I was very lucky to see, having arrived just as it was preparing for take off. This Neptune was involved in the search for USS Thresher, which was lost off the coast of New England on 10 April 1963.

This SP-2E was assigned to the Naval Air Reserve Training Unit at NAS Dallas, Texas. In 1967 there were three VP squadrons at Dallas, VP 701, 702, and 703. Prior to 1970 USN reserve squadrons didn't have aircraft assigned to them. The NARTU at the base was responsible for maintaining and allocating a/c to the reserve squadrons as needed. In 1970 Naval Air Reserve squadrons were reorganized and assigned their own aircraft in order to more closely match the capabilities of the active duty USN squadrons.
