On the apron at Valiant Air Command Warbird Museum in the markings of VMF(AW)-333 "Flying Shamrocks" which was the first USMC unit to receive the F-8C on 6 Nov 1959. It traded its Crusaders for the F-4 Phantom II on 20 June 1968 that preceded entry of this F-8K into service. The Crusader flew supersonic on its maiden flight on 25 Mar 1955 and was the first American jet fighter to exceed 1,000 mph. Not easy to land on carriers, the F-8 was continuously improved with 87 F-8Cs rebuilt as the F-8K featuring wing pylons, an upgraded engine, cockpit and radar while retaining the ventral fins.

Assigned to VMCJ-3 at MCAS El Toro on acceptance in 1959 and redesignated from F8U-1P to RF-8A in 1962, then alternating between the Marines and Navy with VFP-62 at NAS Cecil Field (with whom it was converted to RF-8G in 1966), VMJ-4 at NAS Olathe and last after a period at MASDC from 1974, with VFP-63 at NAS Miramar. Assigned to VMCJ-3 at MCAS El Toro on acceptance in 1959 and redesignated from F8U-1P to RF-8A in 1962, then alternating between the Marines and Navy with VFP-62 at NAS Cecil Field (with whom it was converted to RF-8G in 1966), VMJ-4 at NAS Olathe and last after a period at MASDC from 1974, with VFP-63 at NAS Miramar. Went back to MASDC in 1982 where it was placed on Celebrity Row. Moved to the NNAM at Pensacola in 2007 and restored in its VFP-62 markings, unveiled in 2016

This early Crusader entered service in June 1958 with VF-174 at NAS Cecil Field, FL in a training capacity.
