Fitted with a VUD badge (Vervroegd uit Dienst, translated Early Retirement from Service), the aircraft was kept flying worthy in order to be able to be sold.

Delivered to the Koninklijke Luchtmacht (Royal Netherlands Air Forced) on 17 October 1970, this NF-5A was withdrawn from use in 1986. It was kept in a flyable storage for possible sale but was eventually stored and became an instructional airframe at the Anthony Fokker School in The Hague in the early 90s. It then moved to the National Aviation College in Hoofddorp in the mid-90s. After the NF-5 became useless, it was transported to the National Military Museum at Soesterberg for preservation from early 2019. Of notice on this picture is the grey (new?) wing attached the camouflaged fuselage.

Vliegend Uit Dienst (Fly Away from Service), also reported as Vervroegd Uit Dienst (Early Retirement from Serrvice), this K-3035 was kept in flyable storage after its operational career with the Koninklijke Luchtmacht (Royal Netherlands Air Force) before it was sold and flown over to Türkiye as 3035 on 20 December 1991. Because of the fyable storage, the NF-5A/Bs with the VUD markings were sometimes seen outside.

K-4002 was delivered to the Koninklijke Luchtmacht (KLu, Royal Netherlands Air Force) as the very first NF-5 for the KLu. The ceremony took place on 7 October 1969. The dual seater went into storage at Woensdrecht on 24 May 1988. The aircraft was sold to Venezuala as 1721 and delivered as such on 16 September 1992.

Some of the early retired NF-5s were given this VUD badge. VUD stands for "Vliegend Uit Dienst", or in English, "Flying while retiring". They were placed in storage but flew occasionally to remain airworthy for possible sale. This one went to the Venzuela Air Force as 1711.
