Stored at AMARC since November 1993 and later in the United Aeronautical Corporation yard, along with a whole lot of other S-2s. The aircraft was offered for sale by the Navy in 1979 when VT-28 was transitioning to the Beechcraft T-44.

Delivered to the US Navy as S2F-1 136641. Converted to an S2F-1T. Redesignated as a TS-2A in 1962. Stored at Davis-Monthan AFB, CA in 1978. Sold to the California Department of Forestry as N427DF in 1985 and converted to a firebomber. Operated by Hemet Valley Flying Service from 1988. Destroyed in a fatal crash when it hit trees while on a fire fighting mission at Railroad Flat, CA in 1992.

The colours and code of this T-34C Turbo-Mentor revealed it was last operated from nearby NAS Corpus Christi with VT-28.

VT-28 at Corpus Christi, Texas flew the Tracker as a multi-engine trainer from 1960 until 1979 when the TS-2A was replaced by the T-44 Pegasus (King Air). Another photo shows that D-409 is BuNo 136446, D-440 is BuNo133328 and D-413 is BuNo 136497. Seen at Alameda, these aircraft have probably already finished their career with VT-28 here. 133328 is on record as going to the MASDC boneyard earlier that month, but was returned to service.
