Ex N805SW with Flying Tiger Line (January 1966) and Seaboard World. Later N805U with SAS, HB-IDU with Balair, N9110V with Overseas National airlines, Lbyan Arab Airlines, Aeral and Saudi Arabian, N911R with Elan Air, Rich International, ATI and National Airlines, TF-AED with AirXport and Eagle Air, HP-1088 with Aereos Trans de Panama, 5N-ATS with EAS Cargo Airlines and N808CK with Kalitta and Trans Continental and finally N182SK with Trans Continental in September 1996. The aircraft has since been scrapped.

Previously operated by Universal Airlines from the USA, and withdrawn from use in 1967 and sold. It went through various US owners, but remained in storage. It was eventually sold to Rudolfo Castex from Argentina in September 1974, who operated it in South America. Interestingly, Castex also kept the Commando in full Universal Airlines livery, as seen here. In 1984 it was acquired by Transportes Aéreos Universal from Bolivia (formed in 1979) and became CP-1524. Its fate is unclear, but registration CP-1524 had been cancelled by 1998. Presumably scrapped.

Delivered to Pan American as DC-6B N6522C in 1952. To Aerovias Panama as HP-343 in 1963 and returned as N6522C in 1963. Converted to a DC-6A/B then to the USAF as 66-14667 and the Chile Air Force as 987 in 1967. Sold as N861TA in 1982. Operated by Universal Airlines from 1984 to 1992 then to Woods Air Fuel. Crashed on takeoff at Nixon Fork Mine, AK in 1998.

YIP was always interesting to visit, and had unlimited access in the good old days.

Withdrawn from service, there were four Argosys parked at Willow Run.

The horizontal stripes of this livery make this aircraft appear to be even longer, and when the slide returned from processing my first thought was that I had photographed the sky and ramp--with only a thin line of airplane separating them.

There were four of these stored at YIP this day.

Was destroyed when crashed after takeoff from Hill AFB, Utah 8-24-1970.
