By 7/93: VMA-231, MCAS Cherry Point. 16 Feb 1996: "Crashed after apparently being struck by lightning shortly after takeoff from Cherry Point in foggy and windy conditions. The lightning set fire to one wing, then part of the wing broke off. The aircraft went down in a wooded area west of the airfield during a routine training mission. By 1990: Marine Attack Squadron 231 (VMA-231), MCAS Cherry Point. 6/90 to 3/91: Deployed to Japan, Philippines, Korea for training and then extended to continue to the Mediterranean for combat in Operation Desert Storm beginning in January 1991. 1999: Remanufactured as AV-8B (+), BuNo.165397 for a whole new career.
