This is the only complete D4Y Suisei in the world. Preserved at the Yukushan Museum in Tokyo along with the replica Ohka ('Cherry Blossom') manned kamikaze torpedo. It was discovered on Yap Island in 1972 and was restored in 1980 with help from Nihon Television. The Suisei was the fastest dive-bomber of all World War II aircraft and was actually faster than the A6M Zero.

When Western New Guinea (Netherlands New Guinea) still was a Dutch colony, my uncle served there as a conscript marine. In 1957 he took this picture of an abandoned Japanese aircraft in the Indonesian forests. Considering the inline engine this is probably a Yokosuka D4Y. Photo by: Joop van der Heide

This Suisei (Comet - Allied reporting name 'Judy') was recovered engineless from Babo Airfield, Indonesia in 1991 and has been restored/rebuilt by the Planes of Fame Museum to a non-flying, ground-running, display condition. A non-original radial engine has been installed so as a result the cowling profile is not quite accurate. More than 2000 'Judy's were produced and only this example and one original in Japan have survived.
