Catching a fleeting ray of sunshine. The Skyhopper I was a single seat aircraft designed near the end of World War II. Certification was cancelled post war with the expected civil aviation boom not really happening. Eventually sold as one of the early homebuilt plans available, the widened two seat Skyhopper II became available in 1962. Builders were able to use a variety of engines, cowling and canopy designs. The finish on this one was exceptional.

The Skyhopper prototype at Culver City, CA in May 1946. That's some "airport" with a lot of other planes in the weeds including the Fairchild PT-19 next to the Skyhopper. This original single-seat version was marketed as the Skyhopper I, but the type name was later changed to Skyhopper 10.
