A very pretty Pander E, thought to be new here in the summer of 1930. It was purchased by Mr In 't Veen who applied the name Vlinder (butterfly) at least on the right hand side. The Dutch flag in a circle shape on the rudder is uncommon. The aircraft was sold to the Nationale Luchtvaart School (NLS) in 1932 and destroyed by German bombs here at Waalhaven in May 1940. Rare colour photo of a Pander E, dated 1938. The aircraft had a mishap at Teuge on 13 August 1938. The trainee pilot involved was this picture's photographer, Hans Schade! Registered to the NLS in Rotterdam/Waalhaven in November 1931, later to the NLS chapters Rijswijk/Ypenburg (date unknown) and Rotterdam/Twenthe (September 1931). The aircraft suffered an accident at Teuge in August 1938. The only damage was a broken propeller but the registration was cancelled in February 1939. Back to PH-AIB with private owners between May 1939 and November 1940. The aircraft was seized by the Germans and in the second half of 1941 the useful parts were harvested and the rest scrapped. The owner received financial compensation based on age and flight hours. For the -AIB, this was 1900 guilders. Photo from Harm Reinders

Return of Co van Tijen after his flight to the Netherlands East Indies in this light aircraft in late 1930. Actually, the plane had been shipped back to Holland and Van Tijen was picked up with it in Cologne by his flying instructor, Willem van Graft. A grand welcoming cermony had been organised by stakeholders including Pander, the NLS flying school, and Van Tijen's employer, Van Houten's chocolate factory which sent 200 girls to form the letters 'VH' on the platform. The Pander E was a sport and training sesquiplane first flown in 1926. PH-AFN was owned by Co van Tijen, export manager of Van Houten's chocolate factory.
