Perhaps the most historically significant aircraft in Australia, this Vimy (affectionately known as God 'elp All Of Us) made the first ever flight from England to Australia in 1919. Built for the RAF as F8630, it was converted by Vickers for the England-Australia Air Race. In the capable hands of Ross & Keith Smith, Shiers and Bennett it departed Hounslow on 12 November 1919, reaching Darwin in 27 days 20 hours. G-EAOU has resided since 1958 in a purpose-built shelter at Adelaide Airport. This photo is copyright © Phil Vabre, and may not be used or published in any way without permission.
